Jira
The Jira Target Connector integrates Jira from Atlassian as a target system with your source systems through the HelloID Identity and Access Management (IAM) solution from Tools4ever. The integration automates the management of accounts and access rights in Jira to a significant degree, reducing manual effort and minimizing the risk of human errors. This article outlines the capabilities and benefits of the Jira Target Connector.
What is Jira
Jira is a project management and tracking tool developed by Atlassian. Development teams use Jira to plan, track, and document projects. Jira also provides capabilities for bug reporting and issue monitoring. Originally developed for development teams, the solution has since been extended to support a wider range of teams.
Why is a Jira Integration Useful?
Jira plays an integral role in many projects, providing an overview of both open tasks and completed actions. To contribute effectively to a project, users need access to the application. Configuring this access manually can be time-consuming and error-prone: access rights may be granted too late, the wrong user may be given access, or rights may not be revoked in a timely manner. The integration between Jira and HelloID eliminates this manual effort and ensures the process runs without issues. Users always have the rights they need, and rights for employees who leave or change roles are revoked in a timely manner. The integration also optimizes license costs by creating Jira accounts only for users who genuinely need them and deactivating accounts when they are no longer required.
The Jira connector supports integration with a variety of systems, including:
- Active Directory/Entra ID
- AFAS
- RAET
- ADP Workforce
- NMBRS
- SAP SuccessFactors
- Visma.NET
More information about these integrations can be found later in this article.
How HelloID Integrates with Jira
The connector connects Jira as a target system to HelloID. Through this integration, the Tools4ever IAM solution can create accounts in Jira based on data from your source systems and assign those accounts to a group to grant the correct rights. HelloID can also manage, update, revoke, or deactivate these accounts and rights as needed. Central to this process is an authorization matrix that defines which rights are assigned based on role and department. Based on this matrix, HelloID automates the assignment of accounts and the allocation of those accounts to groups in Jira to a significant degree.
Creating users
HelloID monitors your source systems multiple times per day and automatically detects any changes. When a new employee is added to your source systems, HelloID detects this and automatically creates an account for the user. The IAM solution also assigns this account to the correct group based on your authorization matrix, ensuring the account receives the correct rights. The new employee can start productively on their very first day.
Managing accounts and rights
Where needed, HelloID updates the group to which an account in Jira is assigned based on these changes. The IAM solution uses an authorization matrix defined in business rules. This ensures that access rights and accounts are always up to date, even when an employee changes roles, transfers to a different department, moves to a different project, or leaves the organization. Deviations from the authorization matrix are also possible, for example when you need to make exceptions.
HelloID for Jira Helps You With
- Accelerated account provisioning: HelloID automatically detects changes made in your source systems. Based on these changes, the IAM solution creates an account in Jira and assigns the account to the relevant groups so the required rights are granted. This ensures you do not need to manage this process manually and that a new employee can be productive on their first day.
- Error-free account management: Managing accounts and access rights is not straightforward. You want to ensure not only that users have access to the right systems and applications at the right time, but also that you remove users from groups in a timely manner to prevent unauthorized access. This process is error-prone: failing to disconnect even a single account from a group in time is enough to create a security risk. HelloID takes over this process, automatically assigning the correct groups to users or revoking them where needed. The IAM solution always follows defined procedures, ensuring that all changes are correctly and consistently applied. All changes are recorded in a log file, allowing you to demonstrate compliance with applicable regulations and support audit processes.
- Improved service levels and stronger security: With HelloID, you can be confident that accounts and rights are always correctly assigned at the right time. This elevates your service level and ensures users always have access to the right applications and systems. At the same time, you strengthen your organization's digital security by improving the management of both accounts and rights, ensuring unauthorized users never gain unintended access.
Connecting Jira to Systems via HelloID
Via HelloID, you can connect a broad range of source systems to Jira. Common integrations include:
-
Microsoft Active Directory/Entra ID to Jira integration: The Microsoft Active Directory/Entra ID to Jira integration connects the Microsoft solution as a source system to Jira through HelloID, elevating the management of user accounts and rights. HelloID can automatically create accounts in Jira through the integration and assign accounts to groups so they have the correct rights. You can also connect Jira to your SSO dashboard to provide access to Jira via SSO.
-
SAP SuccessFactors to Jira integration: The SAP SuccessFactors to Jira integration connects the SAP Human Capital Management solution to Jira through HelloID, streamlining the management of users and rights. HelloID integrates closely with both systems and can execute changes in Jira based on updates in SAP SuccessFactors, ensuring users always have the right access at the right time.
HelloID supports more than 200 connectors, enabling you to connect the IAM solution to virtually all popular source and target systems. If no connector is available for the solution you want to integrate, contact us.
