ChipSoft HiX
The ChipSoft HiX Target Connector integrates HiX from ChipSoft as a target system with your source systems through the HelloID Identity and Access Management (IAM) solution from Tools4ever. The connector automates the management of accounts and access rights in HiX, reducing manual effort, ensuring error-free management, and increasing overall efficiency. This article takes a closer look at the ChipSoft HiX Target Connector and highlights both its capabilities and benefits.
What is HiX
HiX is a healthcare information system (HIS) and electronic health record (EHR) developed by ChipSoft. The name HiX stands for Healthcare Information eXchange. The solution serves a broad range of healthcare organizations, including hospitals, general practitioners, nursing homes, pharmacies, and maternity care providers. These organizations may consist of a single location or a network of different types of healthcare institutions working together.
Why is an HiX Integration Useful?
To work with HiX, users must have a user account and the correct rights. This determines not only which features are accessible but also which patient data a user can access. Configuring and managing this manually is complex, time-consuming, and error-prone. You need to ensure not only that a user is assigned the correct rights upon account creation, but also that those rights are updated when the user is assigned a new role or transfers to a different department. The integration between HiX and your source system through HelloID eliminates this manual effort. The IAM solution fully automates the process and ensures error-free management of both users and rights.
The HiX connector supports integration with various systems, including:
- Active Directory/Entra ID
- AFAS
More information about these integrations can be found later in this article.
How HelloID Integrates with HiX
The connector connects HiX as a target system to HelloID. The IAM solution can create accounts and assign rights based on data from your source system. It uses an authorization matrix to assign the correct rights based on users' roles and departments, among other factors. The IAM solution monitors your source system and automatically detects any changes, updating assigned rights in HiX accordingly to keep access rights and accounts up to date at all times. The authorization matrix can be defined in business rules or, if preferred, loaded through an intermediate model in the form of a spreadsheet or CSV file.
Deviations from the authorization matrix are also possible, for example when you need to grant a specific user additional or different rights. This can be done manually or streamlined using HelloID Service Automation.
Creating users
HelloID monitors your source system and detects data changes. Based on these changes, the IAM solution can automatically create an account for new healthcare employees and assign the rights they need. Users always have the correct access to HiX and patient data to perform their work effectively.
Managing accounts and rights
HelloID handles not only account creation but also the ongoing management of accounts and their associated rights. When a healthcare professional's role changes or an employee is offboarded, HelloID automatically updates the user's accounts and rights. This eliminates manual account management and ensures that accounts and rights in HiX are always up to date.
Custom Data Exchange
A standard account mapping is available for the HiX connector. You control which fields need to be populated based on your specific situation. The following fields are supported by default:
- Username
- LDAP (this field is used for correlation and is typically the sAMAccountName or UserPrincipalName)
- LDAP domain
- Blocked
- Description
- Start date
- End date
- Department
- Department description
- Role
- Role description
- Type
- SSO
- AzureUPN
Data exchange uses the COMEZ application server, which requires configuration by ChipSoft. Access to production can only be activated by ChipSoft after the rollout to acceptance has been successfully processed.
HelloID for HiX Helps You With
Accelerated account provisioning: HelloID automatically detects changes made in your source system. Based on these changes, the IAM solution creates an account in HiX and assigns the required rights. A new healthcare employee can start working on their very first day.
Error-free account management: Keeping access to HiX and patient data secure requires error-free account management. HelloID supports you in this by automatically assigning the correct rights to users or revoking them where necessary. HelloID always follows defined procedures, ensuring that all changes are correctly implemented. The solution also logs all user and authorization-related activities, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and preventing errors that could lead to data breaches.
Improved service levels and stronger security: The integration ensures that accounts and authorizations are always assigned at the right time, elevating your service level and ensuring healthcare professionals have the access they need to perform their work. It also strengthens digital security by ensuring that accounts and authorizations are never inadvertently left active, preventing malicious actors from exploiting unnecessary access and ensuring that unauthorized users never retain unintended access to HiX.
Connecting HiX to Systems via HelloID
Via HelloID, you can connect a broad range of systems to HiX. Common integrations include:
Microsoft Active Directory/Entra ID to HiX integration: The Microsoft Active Directory/Entra ID to HiX integration elevates the management of user accounts and rights. HelloID automatically creates accounts for users in HiX and assigns the correct rights. The integration also ensures that the SSO field is populated on a HiX account.
AFAS to HiX integration: The AFAS to HiX integration eliminates manual effort in managing user accounts and rights in HiX. HelloID creates accounts quickly, efficiently, and without errors, assigning users the correct rights. The solution strengthens collaboration between your HR and IT departments, automates account and rights management, and makes the account provisioning process smooth and efficient.
HelloID supports more than 200 connectors, enabling you to connect the Tools4ever IAM solution to virtually all popular source and target systems. View the full connector overview at our website.
