Event log messages
Network ServaNT can access the Windows NT event logs (application log, system log and security log) in two ways:
(1) Starting NT’s built-in Event Viewer
-
Open or create a Network ServaNT tree that contains Workstations or Servers.
-
Select a workstation or server. Click the right mouse button.
-
A pop-up menu appears. Select the menu option Event Viewer. Network ServaNT will start the Event Viewer for the specified server or workstation.
(2) Showing Event Viewer messages in a Network ServaNT tree
To show Event Viewer messages in a Network ServaNT tree, you can simply extent the Network ServaNT tree:
-
Open or create a Network ServaNT tree that contains Workstations or Servers objects.
-
Select a server or workstation and select Tools > Add tree part.
-
Select the Application, Security or System log.
-
Press the OK button. The Network ServaNT tree is now extended with the log entry.
-
Open the log entry in the tree to view the log messages.
-
From here, you can view and print the log messages or configure the columns displayed in the tree. Check out the Using a Network ServaNT tree topic for more information.
You can also use the ALL.NST tree file. For performance reasons however, it might be wise to create a tree which only displays Event Viewer messages.
