Vervolgens genereert de Policy Template Editor automatisch de complexe template files. De standaard Windows 2008/2003/XP/2000/NT policy template files omvat een onoverzichtelijke tekstuele opsomming met alle mogelijke policies. De templates kunnen als het ware worden beschouwd als de broncode voor policies. Met de standaard templates die momenteel in Windows beschikbaar zijn, bevatten niet alle mogelijke instellingen en bovendien is het aanpassen van de templates zeer ingewikkeld.
