Springs Global is the largest vertically integrated textile and home furnishings company in the world with over 100 years of experience in the industry offering brands such as Wamsutta and Springmaid. With locations around the world and their United States headquarters in Fort Mill, South Carolina, Springs Global IT supports over 2,000 employees. Relative to this, two primary needs became apparent in their IT infrastructure. First, they needed to be able to provide help desk administrators the ability to perform certain active directory tasks without giving them elevated rights. Secondly, they needed to synchronize their user information from their HR system, into Active Directory. Both of these time consuming tasks were being performed by an in-house program created by the company which needed to be replaced.
When their in-house processes were in need of an update, a decision was made to look for a commercially available solution. After reviewing several vendors, Tools4everís User Management Resource Administrator (UMRA) stood out to the IT manager primarily due to the product offerings and feature set. Delegate User Management Tasks
At Springs Global, UMRA Forms is set up to provide the ability for people who work at the help desk to make changes in Active Directory to specific attributes such as name, location and manager for an employee. This is done through several digital UMRA Forms which allow them to easily enter only the requested information in order to reduce error. UMRA then automatically processes these changes into Active Directory. Thanks to UMRA this group can make minor changes but not have elevated rights in the domain so that the systems remain secure.
Automatic Synchronization between HR system and AD
Ensuring that information in the different IT systems was timely and accurate was something that Springs Global had trouble with in the past when the process was manual. Information would only get changed when someone had noticed a difference and made the appropriate modifications. An in-house program was written but it eventually failed and the developer who wrote the program had left the company. With no way to fix the program Springs Global US, Inc. turned to a commercial product, our UMRA Automation. UMRA Automation now synchronizes with their HR system called Cyborg into Active Directory each evening using the UMRA automation module. This in turn populates other internal systems such as Sharepoint, help desk software, and the Exchange Global Address List. With changes made each night, employee information is now current and up to date.
In the two years Springs Global has had UMRA, it has saved the IT department a tremendous amount of time performing tasks which they had previously performed manually.
